Here is Gid's story:

I was your typical college student; well, I say typical, but I guess I was more of a Van Wilder college student. I was in the middle of my 6th year of college having too much fun. My diet consisted of fast food, especially fried chicken, every single day and beer on the weekends. The most physical activity I was getting came from occasionally taking my dogs for a walk. My body was in a downhill spiral. Not only was my body suffering, but my mindset was so far off track. I couldn't find a way to stop making excuses for my unhealthy lifestyle. There was ALWAYS some big event, birthday party, football game, etc., etc., etc. that included eating bad food and consuming alcohol. My mind was convinced that those things were more important than my body and health. I told people for months that "I'm starting to get in shape Monday"; the reality was that day didn't actually happen until January 3, 2012. I was afraid that by choosing to be healthy, I would miss out on too much fun, so trying to wrap my mind around the idea that I could be healthy and have fun was a HUGE challenge for me. Funny thing is, and it’s the biggest reason I was so motivated by you and why I could relate to you, was that my weight gain was on purpose. It was just weight gain gone wrong. After Spring Break 2011, I wanted to gain as much weight/muscle as I could so I hit the weights hard for about 5 months and ate as much as I possibly could (badddd foods and beer included). I did gain A LOT of muscle, but I covered it with a A LOT of fat. Then I went about 3 months with no lifting and no change in diet. All in all, I gained about 45 pounds in about 8 months, and my blood pressure was through the roof. Towards the end of October of 2011 I remember weighing once and seeing 244 lbs and my blood pressure was 159/98.

Was being lazy and having a good time fun? Yes, it absolutely was. But more importantly, it was EASY. I could hardly look at myself in the mirror because I was disgusted with what I saw; I hated having bigger love handles than my hands could even grab. I knew what I needed to do, but I also knew it would require hard work and dedication. Both of which got in the way of my college lifestyle. I constantly complained about the aches and pains my body endured; you would have thought I was somebody over twice my age.

I followed your story while you were still gaining weight. I actually planned on starting my “serious” weight loss journey at the beginning of November when you did, butttt I found ways to come up with more excuses that kept me from ever starting. The only change I could make at this point in time was adding running into my daily routine; however, my diet didn't change at all. I went on a ski trip for New Years, and couldn't wear any of my ski gear; I only snowboarded one day and that didn't include many runs. My body was exhausted. I made the commitment then that my life would be changing the day I got home. The next time I weighed in was January 3, 2012, and I weighed 233 lbs. This was the first day of major change.  Being a college student, my biggest issue was eating healthy. Your recipes gave me something to eat besides grilled chicken over and over and over again, and it made the eating healthy part easier to handle for me. Happy to say I didn’t cheat once in 5 months. I didn't have access to a gym so I did the workouts at my house.

I am SO proud of my results, and the cool thing is that my journey isn’t over, it's left me hungry for more! In the first three months, I lost a total of 36 lbs and 21 inches. Since that time, I continued to lose another 10 lbs which brought my weight to 187 lbs. From my weigh-in in October of 2011, I lost 57 lbs!! (I wish my before pictures were taken when I weighed 244 rather than 233, but regardless, there have been huge changes!) My blood pressure is finally perfect, and all my clothes finally fit again! I finally retired my "fat" pants, and I got to show off my new body at the pool. I feel like my body finally knows how old it is again; the aches and pains are completely gone. Everywhere I go, people are commenting on how I look and how I did it. Seriously, this has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my entire life.
