The Science Behind Infrared Saunas

Hey you guys! Now that I'm back in Utah, I wanted to show you guys my Health Mate sauna and tell you the four main reasons why I'm a big believer in the health benefits of Infrared saunas. I try to use mine at least two to three times a week for thirty minutes each time.

My interest in saunas was initially inspired by a blog post titled, "Are Saunas the Next Big PerformanceEnhancing “Drug”? " It's definitely worth a read. I’m always fascinated by the science behind why things work, and how they affect your health.

So without further adieu, here are the four reasons I believe saunas are beneficial for your health that are backed by science:

  1. Reduce inflammation (inflammation leads to chronic disease)
  2. Speeds up recovery (especially awesome if you're sore after workouts. If you can alleviate soreness, you can actually speed up progress as well.)
  3. Increases blood flow (which is why it helps with recovery time your muscles are getting the nutrients they need from the increased blood flow) 
  4. Flushes toxins (you're sweating the toxins out every time you sit in the sauna)
