what’s up everyone. It’s your host, drew manning of the fit to fat, to fit experience podcast. How’s everyone doing today? Thank you guys so much for tuning in to today’s episode food. Uh, I always enjoy, uh, yeah, you guys tuning in and hopefully you guys enjoy these podcasts episodes that I, um, that I do. And, um, I, for those of you who are new, who have not heard of me, most of you guys know me from my fit to fat to fit experience podcast, or sorry, my fit to fat to fit experience. Uh, my journey that I did five years ago, where I intentionally gained 75 pounds in six months to better understand what it was like to be overweight for the first time in my life, and to have more empathy, more respect, and a better understanding for my clients who were overweight. Uh, it was a crazy experiment and I learned so much from it.

I was humbled. It was way harder than I thought. And I could definitely say that I have a better understanding now, especially on the mental and emotional side of things. And that’s kind of what my, uh, podcasts, um, expresses. And I try and, um, bring people on that are experts in all different types of fields. I’ve had, you know, fitness celebrities, I’ve had other celebrities. I’ve had doctors nutritionists, uh, today. Uh, I brought on a biohacker and his name’s Todd. I met him at a keto conference. He’s got an amazing story. He has an amazing product where you talk about everything, wine and alcohol and the alcohol industry and the problems with, uh, wine in general, that’s out there. Um, and he’s pretty passionate about it. And I think he, you know, with right with good reason too, because there’s no nutritional labels on wine and there’s no ingredient list.

And why is that? Have any guys ever stopped to think about why there is no nutritional label or why there is no ingredient labels on wine, for example. Um, so we kind of dive into that and we talk about his dry farm wine, um, which is ketogenic, no sugar, and it’s a low alcohol content, um, and a lower alcohol content at 12 and a half percent versus most commercial wine is 14 and a half percent or above sometimes. But anyways, we talked about the importance of the end. The cool thing I like about Todd is that he, he, he doesn’t, he doesn’t B S he, he she’s a straight shooter and he says, straight up, you know, alcohol is a toxin, you know, it’s toxic to your body. Um, but there are healthier ways of doing, of doing it. And so we, we get into all of that.

So you definitely want to, uh, listen to this episode, especially if you enjoy your wine and, and how, how alcohol affects your body. So, um, a lot of great information, I learned a ton. I know you guys will as well before we jump into the episode, though, our show sponsor today is actually dry farm wines. And, uh, they sponsor this episode obviously, but, um, you know, the reason that I, um, wanted to create a link for you guys, because he’s giving away a free bottle. Well, it’s not free. Technically you got to pay one penny because you can’t give alcohol away free, supposedly. So anyways, I’m Todd set up a link for all the fit, tight fit followers out there. So just go to dry farm wines.com forward slash fit to fat, to fit, and you’ll get a free or a 1 cent bottle of wine of his dry farm wine.

That’s ketogenic, low sugar. You won’t have hangovers. Um, it’s an awesome product. You guys, um, I kind of look at alcohol similar to how I view sugar, and we all know it’s bad for you, right? But at the same time, there’s certain situations that, um, you create memories sometimes with family or friends or certain experience that you remember. And I believe that sometimes alcohol or sugar in some situations when it’s controlled and the right amount of dosage is, is there, that it can be, you know, special memories for some of us or bringing family or friends closer together. So I do see that as a benefit, but anyways, go to dry farm wines.com for slash fit to fat, to fit for that 1 cent bottle of wine. Um, and he’ll ship it to you. So, uh, our other sponsor for the show is quest kito.com. And, uh, quest ketos is obviously owned by quest nutrition and everybody knows quest bars.

Uh, they have a separate side that’s focused specifically on ketosis and they are trying to, uh, or they, they do make a wide variety of products that are ketogenic, that tastes good, uh, that fit the macronutrient profile so that people can have easier access to, you know, frozen meals, desserts snacks, um, that fit into that keto lifestyle, because we are a society of convenience and we like convenient foods that tastes good, but if we can get them to taste good and be convenient and be healthy for us, then it’s a win, win, win situation. And we all benefit from that. So quest Kito does an amazing job. You guys, they’re chocolate bars, their peanut butter fudge cups, they’re cinnamon roll. Their dinners really are great tasting foods. They’re not, you know, most health foods. We know how that tastes. When you add fat as the main macronutrient, the food is almost guaranteed. It tastes good. You’re ready. Things like butter and cream and coconut oil, uh, to these foods. And it’s gonna make it taste so much better. So check them out@questkito.com. And now let’s jump into the show with Todd white, from the dry farm wines.

Todd, welcome to the show. How are you doing today, man? Awesome. Drew, thanks so much for having me on. I’m really excited to share just a lot of knowledge about wine with your audience. Yeah. I’m excited too. I know a lot of people are definitely intrigued by this subject. And so am I, and I’m, I’m so glad that we finally were able to fit you in, because I know you’re super busy this year. This year was a great year for you guys, right? Oh man. We, um, you know, we’re, the business is only like 14 months old. We got amazing endorsements from virtually every health leader you can think of. Mark says, and Dave Asprey, JJ Birch on the list is kind of long, but we got this amazing

Endorsements and our product is really delicious and affordable. Actually our business grew a hundred X this year, so it was kind of crazy.

Yeah, that is crazy. And we’re going to jump into that too, cause I want to talk a little bit about the business side of things, but let’s kind of start from the beginning. And, and the thing I want to start off with is my beef with, um, the alcohol industry in general. And this is one thing that I know you probably have an answer to, but I don’t understand why it’s okay for the alcohol industry, not to have nutrition labels on, you know, all kinds of alcohol here in the U S you know, how do we, how is that safe? Not knowing what’s in your alcohol.

My brother, this is, this is the chief complaint that I have. This is here’s, here’s why there’s no labeling on wine. So wine is the only major food group without a contents label on it. Right? So here’s what they don’t want you to know. And here’s why there’s not a label on it. It’s because the government has conspired with the alcohol industry and with the wine industry to keep labeling off of wine. And the reason that they do that is because spend tens of millions of dollars to keep you in the dark about what you’re drinking, right? Most of us like to drink wine. And the fact is most wines are filled with poisons and toxins, and here’s the reason there’s not a contents label on it. It’s very simple. There are 76 additives approved for the use in wine making. And in the United States, the FDA has classified the FDA approves, these additives, the FDA calls 38 of these 76.

And you can find this online 38 of the 76 additives include the acronym G R a S. And that stands for generally regarded as safe. So we don’t, nobody really knows anything about these additives and the public is completely in the dark. If there were a nutritional or contents label on a bottle of wine, it would look very much like processed food. It would be filled with a whole bunch of chemicals and, and names of, of, of additives that you can’t pronounce. Right? So the, so through lobbying power, the wine industry has spent tens of millions of dollars to keep labels off of wine. Now, I would just submit to you, if these wines were simply fermented grape juice, as they would have you believe, why would they care if there’s a label on it? Right. So, yeah, it’s a real beef, but you know, the back of the matter is that that the alcohol lobby and the alcohol industry is

Yeah, it is. And I’m, you know, it’s just, I think, you know, we all shake our head at it, but at the same time, it doesn’t really, I don’t think detours majority of people from still drinking alcohol and enjoying it, uh, because they, they like the effects of it. Right. But, um, how does that compare to like overseas, for example, in Europe or other countries, per se, is it just the U S or is this a problem worldwide?

Well, I mean, the U S the S led this problem in terms of, in terms of developing and in the U S is the most egregious example of these attitudes, but in the EU in Europe, there are 56 additives approved for the use in wine making. So this is a global problem in order to avoid this problem, as we discovered, and sort of started biohacking wine, there’s only about 500 wine makers in the world who make additive free wines, right out of the hundreds of thousands of labels and winemakers worldwide. There’s about 500 who are kind of these activists hippies, who just care about making real honest, pure wine, right? And so chemical free additive free non manipulated, just real honest, what’s known in the marketplace as natural wine. And that’s a confusing term, particularly people who don’t know what it means, which is almost everyone, because you would think that all wines are natural, right?

This is a health product. I mean, your doctor tells you that you should drink moderate amounts of red wine. And, you know, and then, but you know, a bit, a little bit about my story, how I came to this was, you know, I became a, I became a ketogenic, a nutritionally, uh, ketotic about three years ago and in my pursuit of higher health. And when you, as you know, when you dial in your nutrition to ketosis, I mean, you’re over a period of time, your body becomes more sensitive to exogenous poisons that you’re putting in it, just because you’re nutritionally so clean. Right. So anyway, I just got where I couldn’t drink wine anymore. And, uh, it was making me sick and feel bad. And commercial wines are filled with sugar. And of course, if you’re ketogenic or concerned about sugar, you shouldn’t be drinking commercial wines. And so it’s, you know, it was, um, it was just this whole kind of awareness and awakening as to what was going on in the wine business. And we’ll touch on, you know, in a moment we’ll talk about what makes a wine natural and you know, what those differences are.

Yeah. And so, yeah, I definitely want to dive into your story that, of, of, you know, how you came up with this idea. So, so it starts there with you changing up your diet and then being affected by the wine that was out there. Did you, uh, for a time say, okay, I’m just never going to be able to drink wine again. And then what was that moment where you said, you know what, I think I can create a healthier ketogenic wine? What, what triggered that?

Well, I mean, it was like most things in like most ideas or pursuits. I mean, it was an evolution, so it didn’t start off with, you know, it didn’t start off as evolved as it is today. It started off basically where I stopped drinking for a period of time. In, in, in a period, I call suffering through sobriety, right. I like to drink and we live, most of us live in an environment where we’re drinking is present socially constantly. Right. And so if you like to drink, and I happen to like the taste of wine, and I like the effects of wine and light the community around food and wine. And so I found that was a real deficiency when I stopped drinking wine. And so I wanted to, um, I wanted to find a way to drink wine again. So I had been in the wine business.

I live in Napa Valley. So I know a lot of, a lot about wine, even for people who live here. And even for people who know a lot about wine, they don’t know about the natural wine movement. Cause it’s so small and it’s primarily in Europe. And so I didn’t know anything about it. Um, nor did I know anything about low alcohol wines. So all the wines we sell and drank are 12 and a half percent or below an alcohol commercial wines are 14 and a half and up. Right. And so all of our wines, we do independent lab testing on our wines. So we also know that they’re sugar free, which is another very big deal for me. But so I didn’t know about any of this, right. It’s just, I went to a friend who was the smartest person. I knew in the wine business who had disliked this amazing photographic memory.

And it’s just, just, just a genius. And I was talking with him about it and we were in Mexico on vacation actually. And I said, you know, I have been experimenting with micro dosing. I’ve been dosing down alcohol. And I’ve been finding that I’m having a much more positive effect by drinking less, but I still want to be able to drink, but he’s like, and he said, you know, have you looked at these low alcohol wines coming out of Europe that are naturally made? And I said, no, I’ve never, I don’t know anything about it. Right. So that kind of began my journey of unpacking that. And over the next several months, you know, I started finding these wines. They’re very hard to find and experimenting with them. And I’ve found that about 50% of them are light and about 50% pour down the sink. Right. And so it was like, I was like, okay, but, but for the ones that I liked, man, that feeling was just so revolutionary. Right. So how I felt drinking the wines, like the buzz quality is cleaner, lighter, better. Right. And because you don’t have any toxins and poisons and additives and sugar, there’s a completely different experience, both while drinking, but importantly,

There’s no hangover, right? So you don’t,

You don’t have any hangover. There’s no performance deficiency, which is the reason why we’re not only are we the official wine of most, all of the health conferences like paleo FX or JJ Virgin’s Mindshare or, um, uh, Bulletproof for Dave Asprey. We’re the official wine of Bulletproof. I mean, but we’re also the official wine now for many masterminds and performance groups that are not necessarily focused on help. What they’re focused on. Let’s take like Peter Diamandis is a three 60 or Joe Polish’s genius network. The, these are performance conferences that are really don’t have a specific their executive performance business performance conferences, mind shares without us, without a specific focus on health. But because our wines are so much healthier for your brain and do not create hangovers in the morning, then it turns into a high performance way to drink. Right. And Joe Polish and Dave Asprey, neither of them really drink. Right. But they have endorsed and you know, where the official alcohol and the official wine for these events, because they just don’t produce these wines, do not produce these negative outcomes.

Yeah. And what I think is so great also, as you mentioned that these other natural, low alcohol wines are super hard to find, whereas nowadays with dry farm wines, you can find it anywhere. You see anyone that online, like Dave Asprey or Marxists and talking about it. And it’s all I see all over the place, you know, on Facebook and, and everyone’s sharing it promoting. And when I tell people that there’s a ketogenic wine out there with no sugar, uh, low alcohol and no hangover, people’s eyes light up. And they’re like, what? Like, what is this? Like, how come I never heard about this? Like, this is amazing. And people want to know about it. Um, because, uh, yeah, they don’t want those, those side effects to drink the alcohol. Um, but I think it’s also fair to cover the other side of it. And you, I’ve heard, you mentioned this in other podcasts, which is, you know, alcohol at the end of the day is still a toxin. Right. So, um, and I’ve heard you kind of speak to that. Cause I think some people are saying that don’t drink alcohol saying, well, you know, it’s a healthier wine, but still alcohol is still bad for you. And yeah, you’re not trying to hide the fact that this isn’t like a super food that’s gonna cure your disease or make you super healthier. But man, compared to what’s out there, it’s like, it’s like gold.

Yeah. So it’s it look, it’s, let’s be perfectly clear. Alcohol was not going to do anything to enhance your performance. All right. But let’s talk about what it does do, but before we say that, let me just acknowledge your statement. Alcohol is toxic. So is water and oxygen in the wrong dose. This is the reason that this is the reason that dosage and drinking a low alcohol product makes a lot of sense and why it works. And I’ll just talk about that. Um, because I, I do speak a lot about this topic of alcohol, look, alcohol in its best form. Here’s what it does now. We don’t drink during the daytime because as I said, alcohol is not do anything to enhance performance, right. And I find drinking in the daytime decreases performance. So I only drink at night and I drink with my friends or my staff or family around the dinner table.

And here’s what wine does do so wine or the proper dose of alcohol, I should say. And we’ll talk about dosage in a moment, but proper dosage of alcohol gives a gentle lift, some euphoria and expansion of creative expression, a terrific bonding and cognitive connection with the people that you’re with. It just creates a lot of love. And I think anytime you can create more love in the world, this is a better thing. And I happened to think that drinking wine is a lot of fun, right? So, so, and it’s a lot of fun with, with your, with your friends and your people around you. And it’s just a warm feeling and there’s, and where it does where alcohol and the right dose does enhance performance in one key area. And that’s in creative development and expression, it lowers our inhibitions a bit. It allows us to, to leave the trauma of thought and that, and that, which meditation also does that.

And I hope we get a chance to talk about that for a moment, but, but, um, I speak as often about meditation as I do about drinking, but, but, but alcohol allows for this kind of creative expression that this is the only way that it has any kind of performance enhancement is that it does free your mind and give some liberation. So, but let’s talk about dosage on that. So most people see the reason that we categorically decided that we would only sell wines at 12 and a half percent and below. And most of the wine I drink is 10 and a half or 11%, super low alcohol. Right? And so the reason that, and now there are natural additive free wines, plenty of them that are made at higher alcohol levels. So we took a very definitive direction when we said we’re only going to sell low alcohol wines because I felt that, that I felt that there was real key advantage to dosing down the alcohol and my experience with it and the experience of the thousands of customers that we have.

And all of my friends and staff, we all have this same experience. When we dose this lower alcohol wine down, you just simply feel better overall. Right? And so, so we, here’s how drinking works. You, you have a choice of a few beverages if you want to drink alcohol. And you’ve got, you know, Rob Wolf, our friend, who’s an amazing guy and endorses our wine and, and has been terrifically supportive, developed a drink called the Norco margarita, which is a ketogenic friendly spirits drink. So it’s sparkling water and lime juice and tequila. And so there, and, and, and, and it’s been terrifically, um, popular, particularly in the paleo know community, but here’s my problem with drinking spirits and the reason I don’t recommend that people do it. I think if you’re going to drink spirits, you should probably drink tequila. But because this is going to be the cleanest, plant-based probably what you should drink.

And I agree with Rob on that. And I think he’s done a great service to the community with promoting this nor Cal margarita. However, for me, and my point of view, 45% alcohol is just more than I want to drink. It’s just too high of a dose. That’s what the, so, so my wine that I’m drinking is 11 or 12%. That spirit is 45% alcohol. And so my problem with that is that for most of us, certainly may, I don’t know about you, but many of your listeners, and certainly all of my friends don’t have a glass of wine or a margarita. They have several, right? Yeah. The evening. So that’s like, right. So, and also the other thing about alcohol is that alcohol is not friendly with the taste of food. Now you always hear about food and wine pairings and that’s that’s okay.

But alcohol itself, when you’re drinking spirits with food, there’s no pairing there. There’s no, no, it’s, it’s alcohol is not, yeah, it is not friendly with food. And so I want to have food and alcohol or food and wine together. So the lower, the alcohol actually, the more friendly it is with the food, right? So if, so your choices are, I can drink spirits, which are approximately 45% alcohol. I can drink wine, which ranges categorically from seven to 24%, um, in alcohol, or I can drink beer or ciders, which range from a couple of percent to, you know, as much as 15 or 16% alcohol, but most beer is in the, you know, kind of, you know, three to 7% range. But here’s the problem with beer. I don’t need to tell you, it’s not just the gluten beer guts are real for real reason.

It’s not just the gluten, but most importantly, for those on a low carb or low sugar or ketogenic diet, it is the type of sugar found in beer known as all sugar malt, all sugar is super, super glycaemic right to the liver, bam right. Into fat storage. Right? So that, that’s the reason that you see people have this definitive abdominal fat who drank a lot of beer, right? So beer is strictly off of the table for anybody who’s interested in their help. And I’m talking about, um, even, um, even gluten-free beers, which have become popular on the market, but they still contain a high level of sugar and that, and that’s, and, and the same thing was ciders. We’ve tested. We’ve done. We thought about introducing these, uh, cider products. And there are some out there particularly coming out of Europe that are sugar free, but most ciders, certainly the commercial ciders that you’d see on the market are filled with sugar. Um, so anyway, so that leaves that Lily’s wine. So that’s my drink of choice. And then within the wine decision, I’m going to quantify that wine. I’m going to lab test it. I’m going to know the farming practices. We’re going to quantify how this product is made. And so, and then we’re going to do independent lab testing for mycotoxins and for alcohol. Here’s another interesting conspiracy that the government has with the wine industry. The alcohol stated on a wine bottle by law is not required to be accurate.

Sorry. That’s pretty laughable. Why is that? Well, there’s a reason for it, but the reason for it today is because your government, uh, is conspiring with the alcohol industry to mislead consumers, just like they do about labeling well, the contents labeling, but they also do it about with alcohol. Now, here’s the reason why that is. So back when this law was written was post prohibition in the forties, right? When lab testing methods were not accurate. And so you could have, you could have out a wine tested at one lab and it would show one alcohol, um, amount, and you could test it at a different lab and it could be, it could be different. And so that the alcohol testing methods at that time were just not highly accurate. Well, that’s not true today. Today, they are spot on pinpoint exact and technical, right? So, but the law has remained in place because the alcohol industry would prefer to serve you a higher alcohol product and stayed at lower.

Here’s why alcohol is a domino drug, right? This is one of the negative aspects of alcohol. It’s a domino drug. And this is the reason I don’t like the idea of drinking spirits. When you drink alcohol, the more you consume and the faster it is consumed, the more it leads you to consuming more faster. You have you ever had that experience? Yeah, I think most people would have. So, so that’s the reason that if we’re going to drink healthy and responsibly and, well, let me talk about glorious exceptions in just a second, but if we’re going to drink healthy and responsibly for our health and body and mind, we need to find a lower alcohol product that is inherently lower alcohol from the beginning, like a low alcohol wine. So wine also can Y and also contains about a thousand polyphenols like resveratrol and other antioxidants that make it a healthier choice.

Overall, if you’re going to drink, you should be drinking wine. If you’re going to drink, you should be drinking natural additive free wine and at lower alcohols. So I want to touch on one thing. I just mentioned what we call glorious exceptions, these happen, right? And so don’t beat yourself up about it is this, like when you’re in a hotel room and this can happen to me three or four times a year, it’s like, just like when I’m in a hotel room and I come in and it’s 2:00 AM, and I have what I call a 2:00 AM incident where there’s a Snickers bar or something in the room. And I end up eating the damn thing, right. This happens, don’t beat yourself up about it, you know, is, is, is, you know, you get up the next day and you begin a fresh day. And, you know, maybe I had a little compression of, of, uh, of ketone production, but by noon, um, you know, um, um, back in the saddle, no big deal, right?

Don’t, don’t kill your over it. I mean, this is like, but I only come out of ketosis maybe like four or five times in a year. And it’s generally because of one of these ins. Right. But we’re all flawed like that. And I mean, we’re just not going to be, you know, w we’re just going to have these pleasures, but glorious exceptions or what we call these moments where we’re just simply overserved, right. They’re going to happen when you drink. Right. You’re going wrong from time to time and drunker than you would like to be. And, and this can happen, you know, this is going to happen at, um, this can happen at weddings or, you know, a night out with your bros or, you know, um, parties or holidays, these glorious exceptions happen all the time. Right. Just have to keep it to a minimum. So if you’re, if you like to drink wine, or if you like to drink and you drink on a regular basis, then you need to choose a lower alcohol product where it is inherently more difficult to consume too much alcohol. Does that make sense?

Yeah, no, it does. It makes perfect sense. And I think, you know, you’re kind of barking at my tree cause I feel like I talked to people about this all the time and I kind of see alcohol similar to the way I see sugar. For example, we all know that sugar is really bad for you. Right. But that doesn’t mean that, I mean, for the most part, a lot of people would be better off avoiding sugar, 100% completely. But at the same time, you know, there are going to be those glorious exceptions where you’re, it’s your birthday or you feel like you deserve it. Um, but when you’re doing it to cover up emotions, for example, like you’re stressed out or you’re you had a bad day, or you do it too excessively, that’s where you can get in trouble with sugar or alcohol. In my opinion, you can definitely it, like you said, dosage is the key.

And, you know, you mentioned, you know, drinking with your friends at night or your family and you become closer together. Having those moments is important in life, right? Because you’re creating memories and that’s what life is all about in my opinion. And so I see it very similar to sugar in the sense that, you know, there are going to be those glorious exceptions. And if it has a higher purpose of bringing you together with other people and creating more love in your life, then I feel like in those moments, it’s worth it. Um, as long as you don’t let it get out of control where you are drinking too fast, like you mentioned, um, and too high of dose and too high of alcohol content. And then it just creates this, uh, this really quick downfall to where you wake up next morning. You’re like, man, I should not have, I should not have done that.

Where you’re you feel the effects of it afterwards? And so that, that’s kinda my view on it. And I’m glad you touched on these points and this is you who’s, you know, you sell wine. And so I like your honesty, your openness about it. And I think people will really appreciate that because at the end of the day, um, it’s so easy just to, you know, sell a product and say, Hey, this is, this is healthy for you. Like some doctors or articles might try and push wine or, or milk or, or even sugar sometimes saying like, this is healthy for you. When in reality it’s like, Hey, here’s the truth, you know, be careful, but here’s how our wine or our product, this is what we’re doing to make it healthier because we still feel like it brings a purpose into your life and can, can serve you serve a higher purpose in your life. Does that make sense?

Yeah. Pammy people are not look, I’m not likely to stop breaking anytime soon. There are most of your listeners and let’s don’t sugar coat. So to speak let’s don’t sugar coat, this issue. I mean, it is what it is, right. And so we just had to find the most optimal way to enjoy this experience. And as for sugar, listen, bro, I call it public health enemy number one. And I’m largely when I say largely, I am fanatically sugar-free with these rare exceptions, which as I said, always happen overnight in a hotel room where they’re aware I’m just of weak mind and have been out too late and probably drank too much wine. And so this is just how it is, this is how it happens. But, and this is not uncommon, everybody, everybody, we all fall down, the question is, how quick do we get back up?

And so, and you mentioned love, listen, man, if you can find a way and wine is very useful for this, you know, so is, so is, uh, you know, the keto community you belong to and that I’m, I’m a part of, well, if you can find a way to surround yourself with people who tell you, they love you more and who are not afraid to love and to spread love around the world, this is the most amazing gift that we can give anyone or ourselves, right? So wine helps with that. But from my point of view, ketogenic diet helps with it as well. So does meditation and you know, all the bio hack really ultimately help to have more confidence and more energy. The ketogenic diet really drives, you know, significant energy. And, um, when we have more energy, we’re more activated, we’re more engaged. And when we’re more engaged, we’re more confident when we’re more confident where we’re not afraid to express love and to be available and to be vulnerable, right. When, um, so when we’re available and vulnerable, that’s when people really get to know us.

Yup, exactly. And, and sometimes, you know, having a little bit of low alcohol wine, like your guys’ wine can help you break out of that shell and become more vulnerable in a situation which will create more lasting, real relationships in your life. And so that’s what I’m saying is that can be a good thing in those situations. Um, just the other day I was on the local news and I made this ketogenic, pumpkin coconut cheesecake bites, and everybody at the new station ate it up and, and they were like, Oh my gosh, this is amazing. It was ketogenic. And, and that’s the other thing is finding healthier alternatives to what’s already out there. Uh, you don’t just because it’s Thanksgiving doesn’t mean you have to go buy the cheap pumpkin pie from Walmart. You can research it and find all kinds of, you know, healthier versions of pumpkin pie or whatever it is that you crave.

Sometimes there are healthier alternatives out there. And like, and so that’s kinda what I see you guys doing it. And it’s revolutionary because there’s, I don’t know of any low alcohol, non additive, chemical free wines that I’ve seen, or even heard of people talking about it. And, you know, I know you said there’s 500, uh, you know, companies, I’m sure they’re not the big, the big names out there, but, um, I don’t, wouldn’t even know where to get it, to be honest with. I don’t think most people do. And so that’s why, um, that’s why I wanted to bring you on to make this more aware to people that this is an option out there, right? If you are gonna have alcohol, try, try the wine and, and see, see how you like it. And I think most people will be pleasantly surprised. Um, because you talked about those wines that you tried and then 50 were good and 50, you had to pour down the sink, you will be pleasantly surprised. So,

Yeah, so, you know, we, we have, you know, we have a tasting panel of six people that are taste experts. So we’re, we are calling through hundreds of wines, um, to find just these amazing gems, just these beautiful, honest, elegant, delicious wines. We only buy about 30% of the wines that we taste and test. So we reject about 70% of what we taste and test, right? Because either we don’t like the taste of it, or it’s not quite our static or it doesn’t pass labs, even though they’re naturally made all the wines we taste are natural. So just because it’s natural doesn’t mean it’s going to pass our static or our lab work. Right. So we only accept about 30% of the wines. And let me tell you who these people are for just a moment because natural wine makers, you can’t make, they’re all super, super, super tiny producers, primarily in Europe, some in South Africa, some in Chile, a handful of New Zealand, um, these sort of like activists, hippies, who are like seriously committed to the earth and living soils and biodiversity and farming. And these aren’t, you cannot make natural wines in very large volume. That’s the reason you have all these additives that are in commercial wines, right? Because you can’t make wine in any significant volume without the use of these chemicals. It’s just, it’s just too unstable and environment, right? So once you get to a production level, more than a few thousand cases,

You can’t make natural wine anymore. So

Really small family farms, as I said, most of them are in Europe who are, are just super fanatical about the earth and about purity and about making an artisan product they’re craftspeople, right? So there’s no companies here. There’s no big wineries. There’s, here’s, what’s happened in the wine business. Let’s talk about this for a second, because this is really interesting. And your listeners won’t know this what’s happened in the, in the wine business is the same thing that’s happened in every other agribusiness. And that means that the focus has become entirely on profits, right? The focus has become on how do we do this faster, cheaper, not better healthier, right? So in America, 52% of all the wine manufactured in the United States is made by just three giant companies.

Wow. Now you don’t know that you don’t know that you could research it online. It’s easy enough to find you do wine production by company. It’s super easy information. And then total production in the country division is not, this is not rocket science, but, but the reason that you don’t know that is because these multibillion dollar three companies hide behind thousands of labels and brands, right? So you have no idea. You think what they want you to believe is that you’re drinking from a Chateau or a farmhouse out in the country, right? What you’re drinking from these massive factories, what we call tank farms. You can see these storage tanks as far as you can see, right? And so drinking from these massive factories that are creating this poison right now, here’s another interesting statistic. Uh, 70% of all the wine in the United States is made by the top 30 companies, right? So it’s like, you’ve got the top three to the top 40 makeup, almost the balance of it. So it’s, it’s just kinda crazy. The other thing that happens in the United States, um, is that glyphosate also now known as Roundup is the number one used herbicide in all us vendors.

And glyphosate has been found in trace amounts in, in U S wine just last year. Um, a test was a test was run in three appellations in the United States, all three, well known appellations, all three of them actually were in California. And, um, where the most wines in the United States are made. So, uh, yeah, so, so it’s, you know, it’s getting getting this and it’s thought that the glyphosate is actually not because of the way glide because of the way Roundup is applied in vineyards. It’s not like sprayed like wheat it’s, it’s, it’s not an overspray it’s down at the ground. And so, uh, these tests that they did found glyphosate present in wine, in both organic farms and non-organic farms. And the reason that’s important is because it’s now speculated that the Roundup is getting in the plant through irrigation and American vineyards are nearly a hundred percent irrigated.

And so now our wines, hence our name, dry farm wines. Our wines are 100% on irrigated. So there’s zero irrigation on our wines. And that’s really important. We can’t say definitively because of the glycine. Glyphosate is speculated that that’s how it’s getting in the wine, but whether or not that’s how it gets in the wine or not irrigating a great Von is just a bad idea for a lot of reasons. Great bonds have been growing for over 10,000 years without irrigation. And in fact, irrigation didn’t come to great farming until the 1970s in the United States. It’s almost a hundred percent practice today. And the reason that you irrigate a great vine, which they do not do in Europe. And in fact, it’s illegal in most Appalachians, it’s against the law to irrigate because they know what I know, the moment you irrigate a grapevine, you change the physiology of how the plant, how the plant expresses itself.

And most importantly, how it ripens fruit. And so, um, so, so, but the reason you do irrigate in the United States is because it’s profitable, right? So you get higher yields and guess what? Fruit filled with waterways more and fruit and soul by the ton. So this is a simple map, right? But all I’m trying to do is to save you all from drinking all that poison. No, this is very interesting stuff. And I think, you know, knowledge is power and knowing these things can, you know, does, does create more power for you in decision making. So the next time you go to make a decision about alcohol or wine, you you’ll know, you’ll remember these statistics and these, these facts that are out there because a lot of it is, you know, hid from the public in general, or you can find it right online, but, uh, you have to do the research.

And so that’s why podcasts, in my opinion are so powerful. Cause this is a great way to get free knowledge out there to the masses, um, without having to go to school or, or, you know, read your own books, which you, you know, you still should do, but that’s why I love podcasting to be honest with you. So I’m glad that you brought all these things uptight. Um, uh, we’ve got about 10 minutes left, but I kind of want, there’s a couple other subjects I wanted to get into. And, um, I know you’re a big fan of, of the Wim Hof breathing method. I kind of want to talk about how you got into that and the benefits of that and, and things that you guys have coming up that have to do with breathing techniques. Cause like you said, you know, drinking wine for example, can be similar to meditating, right?

It can give you that same, uh, peace of mind and, um, mental, uh, I’m trying to think the words you said now, uh, but anyways, the benefits are similar that’s creative expression expression and, and it, and it temporarily it temporarily and television does this too. It temporarily stops the trauma of thinking, right. Which is that constant chatter that we have going on in our mind. So wine helps with that. So does television, which is the P the reason that people, you know, drowned out in the TV because it, because it, because it, it, um, uh, television is an amazing medium, uh, used in the right way, but sometimes we’re not using it in an informative way. We’re using just a dial out. And what we’re really trying to, what we’re unconsciously doing is stopping that mind chatter. But you ask about when I’m Hoff and I don’t want to touch on meditation as well.

So we I’ve been practicing when I’m hot or what I really a modified version for. We’ve created sort of our own routine, but what we originally trained both on whim Haas video, and I’ve also trained twice with Wellinghoff in person. And so I practice, I practice breath fitness every single morning as a part of my morning ritual, which includes meditation. So here’s what I say about the two topics. Meditation is the number one most effective and the greatest bio hack of all time, right? You can achieve more in your life in terms of enhancing the life experience, optimizing the living experience through meditation, in my opinion than any other single thing you can do, because meditation is going to allow you to get a grounded pathway to pursue, uh, the other things that are important to you, like ketogenic diet or, or, or, uh, creative development or whatever it is that that you’re pursuing and what your goals are.

Meditation allows you to calm that, that trauma of thinking that constant chatter that gets in the way of all the abundance that you deserve in life. Right? And so notation is really powerful for that. So I would say meditation is a greatest biohack of all time and breadth. Fitness is the single most underrated biohack of all time. So, so very few people practice it. So my morning ritual is about 40 minutes of breath work and, um, and meditation. And I begin, uh, begin the, um, I began the ritual with, uh, with breath work that lasts about 15 minutes of very, very intense breath work. And here’s why a really like, particularly for meditation, beginners, why I like starting with breath work in the beginning of meditation, because when you’re doing intense, when you’re doing very intense breath work, because the one thing that people say about meditation is I can’t stop thinking, right.

I’m failing at this. I can’t stop thinking when you begin your meditation practice with, with, um, very serious breath work, intense, intense, deep breath work. My brother, you can’t think about anything other than breathing. Right. Cause it’s hard. It’s, it’s, it’s hard. So you’re not, you’re not thinking about you don’t have any thoughts. You’re just thinking about this breath work. Right. Cause it’s, cause it sounds like this, trust me when you’re breathing at that, at that depth and rate you, you, you’re not thinking about anything else. Right. And then from there I go into to just to concentrate in meditation. But, but yeah, Wim, Hoff I think is, uh, is, is the best breath training course. It’s, it’s, you know, it’s not cheap. It’s like 225 or $50 or something. It’s a 10 it’s a 10 week course, but I don’t know if you’ve met him, but he’s an amazing character. And

Talk about a guy that’s filled with the law.

He’s just, he’s just, uh, he’s just pretty awesome. And, and uh, just a super, super interesting guy. You probably heard a podcast with him. I’ve heard podcasts with him.

I’ve heard about his story and all the tests he’s been through and the amazing things he can do with his body. Um, it just blows mind, you know, that

It’s not talked about more, but the cool, the thing that is cool is that it’s teachable and he’s able to teach it and pass it along to other people. Right. So for example, you do, it was in Chicago. Did you jump in like a frozen Lake or where was it? Well, I man, I just, so we do cold water, cold water training daily, some ice baths. I have a well at my house, so I get cold water. Uh, I was just in Chicago and just this past week for both, uh, uh, polar swam and Lake Michigan, but more importantly in the same trip, I had my most extreme cold exposure ever really, uh, this past week. And I’ve been doing cold thermogenesis cold training for about, uh, just over two years. And, um, so I did a running shorts and shoes only run in the snow by the Lake at 20 degrees for 45 minutes.

Oh wow. And with nothing on except a little skimpy pair of running shorts, it was, it was a, I don’t know if I would do it again. And I didn’t realize it was 20 degrees when I went outside, then it was snowing and it was like, it was dude, it was just bone chill, man. But here’s the really interesting thing about having that experience is that you realize, and this is the reason the Ron, I think, is so much more effective to get down to this deep level then than a swam swam. You’re just going to come back out of the water. Right. Cause this just cold. Right. You’re your, you can’t stay in more than five or 10 minutes. I mean, you just, can’t just, and so you know how for most of your listeners, who’ve never even done any kind of cold training, uh, you know, how difficult it is just to take a cold shower.

Yeah. Yeah. I know. I’m trying to get people that do that here in, in January with me for just one month straight. So, so, but here’s the thing on the run when you run somewhere, right? You’ve run out this distance. Now you have to run back. So you don’t have any options. Right. You can’t just stop or get out, you know, you’ve got to complete your journey. And so man in the, in the very last, like 10 minutes, I would say I had some little slight disorientation and really required a lot of mental focus to keep from coming on glued. Yeah. Cause I mean, if you’re not mentally focused, you’ll just break down. You’ll just be like, I’m giving up. I don’t know what to do. Right. And so that kind of training I think is really not only is it have a lot of health benefits to your central nervous system and not only is it terrific for your brain and for neurochemical production and there’s many, many advantages to cold therapy, but that mental training is also powerful and you do that in the gym and other places.

But when you get out there on the edge, like in being that cold, you know, it requires a high degree of mental focus to stay on point. Yeah, man. That’s so cool. That a cool story. Like a, a, I’ve never tried something like that, especially for 45 minutes. Uh, but it, it definitely sounds interesting. It’s not for the week, uh, to just go out there and be like, all right, Todd did this. So I’m going to give it a try, find a park. My friend, now you got to build up today, let’s start with maybe a cold shower for 30 seconds. Sure. I’ll try that. No, don’t this is no don’t, don’t talk, don’t try this at home. Just start, stop. You know, it’s those showers have, you’re probably will explain to your, to your folks. So you’re trying to get to join you on this challenge, but cold showers, you want to start, you know, warm then cold accent, and then you eventually work up to cold and cold out and there’s, you can train into it so that your, uh, so that you now, when I get a cold shower every morning, I mean, it’s just how I start my day.

I mean, and I do call down and called out before I go to the gym. So I’m not using, I’m not using my cold and cold out shower. Cabaze, I’m just, I’m doing cold therapy and then I’m drying off and going to the gym. And then I have, you know, uh, a shower to where I’m going to bathe myself, includes warm water and then a cold accent. But, but you know, you can train into it and, um, I’m sure you’ll have a program for that, but listen, um, I know that we’ve run a few minutes long here, so yeah, no. So a couple of last quick questions that are just kind of rapid fire questions, and then I want to let people know where they can find you. Cause I know people are gonna want to reach out to you or visit the website and follow you on social media.

Okay. What was your biggest lesson you learned in 2016? A self-forgiveness awesome. And what are your goals for 2017? The year of my voice and video. I know that you got some stuff coming up, so we’ll have to have you back on. Okay. Um, you mentioned a Snickers bar. Uh, what, what, what’s your like real GoTo thing? Like if you, if you had to pick if you had to choose, right. Cause if it’s just a Snickers bar there, I know this peanut or maybe it is, you know, what’s your favorite thing as far as you know, when you dip out of ketosis? When I dip out, um, it’s, it’s super rare. I mean, there have it’s if I tip out, it’s just always an incident and it’s either a Snickers bar or I also have a weakness from gummy bears that are found in hotel rooms sometimes.

But, but I will tell you that I do like I’m able to maintain because I only eat once a day. So, you know, I do 24 hour intermittent fasting every day. I think it’s, I used to do the lean gain 16 to 18 hour fast. I have now been doing 24 hour fast for about eight months when I went to 24 hour fast. I, it was a game changer for me. I thought it was like the most awesome thing ever. I will never go back to eating more than once a day. But so when you, when I have these long, fast, you know, it’s just so much easier for me to stay in ketosis, even if I step out on the boundary a little bit. So my favorite go to food of all time. That’s not ketogenic friendly or French fries,

French fries. Oh, so good.

So that’s the, the 2:00 AM incidences, those happen three or four times a year. I mean, that’s not a, that’s not a big problem. What I do like, and I can, and I do, I do blood testing, uh, for, um, BHB, right? So I I’m regularly doing blood testing. I test every morning when I get up, uh, I, um, I just do regular testing. So what I found is that I can eat a moderate amount of French fries on occasion. I eat them a couple times a week in moderate amounts, right? Like I’ll have like six or eight and that’s enough to satisfy my emotional, you know? And they don’t take me out of ketosis. And if I were to eat like a meal of French fries, they would take me out of ketosis. But you know, as, you know, fat and fiber mitigate glycaemic response. And so, you know, you can other things that, um, you know, that I eat occasionally, that I like, but these are really occasion. It’s like chicken Milanese. So I love fried chicken or, you know, or even fried fish. And these are also things again, just that I wouldn’t normally eat. And I rarely, rarely eat like maybe two or three times a year, but these are things I enjoy the flavor of. So yeah, I’m not at all.

Well, thanks. Uh, thanks again, Todd, for coming on before I let you go. Um, where can people find, you find your website, find your wine,
