Are You Buying the Wrong Workout Gear?

Are you getting the most out of your workout with your current gear? Surprisingly, what you decide to wear can significantly hinder the effectiveness of your workout (if you've ever bought Walmart workout clothes and wound up itching before you even work up a sweat, you know what I'm talking about!)

When aiming for a solid workout, your old college basketball shorts just aren't going to cut it anymore. These are the things that you should be opting to wear when you head out the door for the gym.

1. Avoid baggy clothing

Simply put, baggy clothing will do absolutely nothing but impede your workout. While loose clothing seems comfortable in theory, it is notorious for getting caught and hung in exercise machinery, and you also run the risk of tripping over it while engaged in an activity. Any piece of clothing with a snug fit is better than one with a loose fit. Also, always try on your workout gear before heading out the door to double-check its fit.

2. Steer clear of noise-cancelling headphones

While it's understandable that you want to get pumped about your workout, you are at a much higher risk for injury while wearing noise-cancelling headphones. This is mainly because it's incredibly difficult to stay alert about your surroundings while wearing this type of gear. If you want to listen to music while you exercise, go for small ear buds that allow you to still hear other surrounding noises.

3. Check out what Hylete has to offer

I can't really say enough good things about Hylete. Most of what Hylete has to offer is incredibly comfortable, wicks away moisture quickly, and lasts for years (a pretty long time considering the amount of high impact activity that the gear is regularly subjected to). Hylete has a lot to offer in terms of thermals, tees, pants, shorts, headwear, bags, and much more.

4. Opt for an advanced fabric

One of the many reasons you likely feel slimy on your way home from the gym is because of the fabric used in your clothing. Cotton is a no-no for workouts, mainly because it retains moisture that doesn't evaporate easily. This trapped moisture can also eventually cause excessive irritation. Go for fabrics that are technologically advanced such as Capilene, CoolMax, or Dri-FIT for your workout ensembles.

5. Ladies should test their tanks out

While a tank top might be un-flashy while in a resting or standing position, the story might be completely different once you get moving and bending over. You can remedy excessive cleavage issues by opting for cleavage-proof workout tanks. These types of tops will help keep your chest covered during even the most intense of activities. Finding a strong workout bra is also suggested, as it will provide solid support.

As you progress further into your fitness journey, you'll gradually find more workout gear that suits your body and style. When buying gear, never sacrifice safety and comfort for aesthetic appearance. You'll thank yourself after each and every workout!
