Here is Rowson's Story:
My Fat2fit journey was an “unexpected” and adventurous journey. In May 2011, I obtained my bachelor’s degree and thought this was the highlight of my life but little did I know it wasn’t. I became severely depressed after being denied by several jobs and owing so much student loans. I looked into foods as my comfort specifically Burger King. I would visit this fast food restaurant four times a week ordering the same thing each time- Double Whopper with cheese, large fries, and large fruit punch. I kept getting bigger and bigger but it never stopped me from having what made me the happiest at that time which was that “juicy burger”.
One day while at work, I started to feel a burning sensation in my chest and felt as if I were going to collapase. I visited the doctor and he said “Rowson, you need to lose weight. You’ve gained 50 pounds in a year”. At this time, I was weighing in at 260 pounds but even though the doctor told me I needed to lose weight I didn’t listen, I still ate burger king and other fast foods. I was depressed and never found happiness in myself. My mother began to lose weight and it motivated me, I said to myself if my mother can do it, so can I! I decided that I was going to give it my all to lose weight, I started making healthier decisions; for breakfast, I would eat oatmeal, and lunch I’d eat a salad, but I slowly got tired of eating the same thing all the time.
I started asking my friends and coworkers for tips on how to lose weight and a coworker had told me about a guy named Drew Manning, she told me he had gained 75 pounds in six months and then gave himself six months to get rid of the weight he gained. I perused his site for weeks, watching all of his videos, reading up on his recipes and his book. I became motivated and decided it was time to change my life. I started my Fat2fit stage in June 2012. After my first week I went from 260 to 255! I was impressed! This gave me motivation to continue doing this until I reached 190(my weight in high school). What amazed me the most was seeing how my family and friends supported me 100% of the way, there were several times where I didn’t have the funds to meal prep and my dad went out and purchased all my food and said “son I support you 100% and don’t give up”. I pushed myself in the gym and the results were simply amazing. I was no longer depressed, I was always smiling, I was back to my old self. Most of all my waist was down from 44 to 36, and weight was down from 260 to 215.
In February 2013, I hit a plateau, and gave up, my parents and best friend kept saying “ Row you need to push yourself” so I emailed Drew asking for his help. Drew helped me to push myself again in the gym and the results followed, I went from 215 to 193 and my waist went from 36 to 33. I can't thank Drew enough for helping me reach my goals.
I always had my preconceived notions about weight loss. Weight loss to me was always just a number, but in reality it isn’t that simple. I no longer have those headaches during the day, my stomach was no longer in knots, I no longer have chest pains, and I am a lot happier. This journey also taught me about self-discipline and hard work, nothing in life comes easy. If you really want something you have to go out and get it.
